Hi, I am Yu Quan!

I am an undergraduate pursuing Engineering Product Development (EPD) in Singapore University of Design and Technology (SUTD). I have a strong interest in material science and product design. Currently, my goal is to become a research engineer in the defence and public security industry.

Skill Summary

Here is a summary of the things I am capable of doing:

Programming

Proficient in C and Python. Exposure to R and Matlab.

3D Modeling

Proficient in modeling and designing with Solidwork and Fusion360.

3D Printing

Proficient in using Fused Depositon Modeling (FDM), Direct Ink Writing(DIW) and Aerosol Jet Printing(AJP). This include general parameter control and post-processing. Exposure in other 3D printing technique as well, such as SLA

Material Characterisation

Have experience in operating various material characterisation tools, such as (but not limited to):

  • FESEM
  • Goniometer
  • TGA
  • FTIR

Material Knowledge

Good knowledge in properties of metals, ceramics, polymers, semiconductors and their known materials. General knowledge in choosing, processing and synthesizing of various materials.

Software Skills

Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint, Excel) and Google Office (Docs, Slides, Sheets)

Language

Fluent in spoken English and Mandarin

Elixir-N

[NYP - EGJ 303H] A bodywashing slime that uses nanosilver to kills bacteria and virus. Suitable for maintaining one's hygiene when it is not possible to shower/clean yourself.

Improving Crutches Tip

[SUTD - 10.015 Physical World] In this project, we aim to apply what we learn to improve the safety of crutches by modifying the tip of it.

Impossible Maze

[SUTD - 10.014 Computational Thinking for Design] A maze game where students can train their mathematics, geography, and typing skills by doing randomly generated challenges.

Smart Ring

[SUTD - 10.017 Technological World] A smart ring that integrate NFC tags and Faraday Cage concept for authorized personnel to access schools or offices premises.

Staelite

[SUTD - 03.007 Design Thinking and Innovation] A collapsible, expandable and interactive table for people to hang out and bond after office hours in Changi Business Park.

Growing Table

[SUTD - 10.023 Designing Energy Systems] A solar powered table that promote growth of plants by switching on LED growth light at night for a period of time. This aims to encourage more Singaporean to grow their own food at home, such as microgreen.

Solar Dehydrator

[SUTD - 01.020 Design Project Thinking III] A dehydrator that uses passive heating and ventilation to dehydrate their own food. This allow households to make their own dried fruits and vegetable to minimise food waste.

Photographer Taker

[Personal - Tech4Good 2022] A motorized gimbal that is attached to the wheelchair. This is to enpower patients that suffer from Muscular Dystrophy to take photo independently.

gaigai

[SUTD - 30.007 Engineering Design Innovation] A bicycle trailer that can be attached to any bicycle that can be used in parks and pavement. It allows seniors and person with disabilities(PWDs) to be physcially involved in the cycling process, improving their physical and mental health.

UROP: Aerosol Jet Printing on Paper-like Substract for Electromagnetism Application

[SUTD] Investigate the printing of conductive ink on paper-like substract. This involve the actual printing, characterisation of different paper, literature review and simulation.

SHARP-UROP: Natural Inspired Aerial Craft

[SUTD] Design and develop variants of maple seed inspired monocopter to expand the application of it

SHARP-UROP: Surface Texturing for Carbon Capture

[SUTD] Develop a theoretical design to maximise the surface area of a film. Investigate the surface texture of different carbon capture film created.

SHARP-UROP: 3D Printing of Magnetic Composite

[SUTD - Ongoing] Investigation on how to increase loading of magnetic material on a polymer matrix for 3D printing
